Caribbean Sound Archive

The Caribbean Sound Archives is an audio documentation project, archiving sounds from the Caribbean region. The project wishes to highlights Caribbean legacies transmitted by music, language, and oral traditions, among others.

The project opens reflections on how to document and share sounds through a Caribbean perspective.
It then focuses on the history of the Caribbean landscapes and languages, the Kalinago and transatlantic history, the rites and musics from the region.

CSA aims on the production of texts about the Caribbean sonic space, and contemporary sound practices emerging within the Caribbean or resonating through its diaspora.

CSA has support from the Direction des affaires culturelles de Guadeloupe, for a documentation exploring the archiving activity of American ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax. In 2026, it will be focusing on the documentation on four territories from the Lesser Antilles : Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique and Sint-Lucia.
